Queer Studies: A Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Anthology

Beemyn, Brett and Mickey Eliason, eds. (1996). Queer Studies: A Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Anthology. New York, NY: New York University Press.

Although this anthology appears to be a decade past its expiry date, the material contained within remains as relevant today as it did in 1996. In particular, Tracy D. Morgan's article on physique magazines of the 1940s and 50s is of particular interest to those studying publics and counterpublics. Morgan traces the emergence of a queer public back to the proliferation of beefcake magazines in post-World War II North America. Also collected in this anthology are treatise on identity formation, inclusivity, gender, sexual performance, and butch-femme relationships.
